What is WVU Fire Service Extension (WVU-FSE)?
WVU-FSE is a leader in providing critical, high-quality training to public and private sector emergency responders. We work with federal, state, and local organizations to meet national consensus standards and develop needed curricula. We train firefighters, emergency service workers, military, and industry.
Where is Fire Service Extension?
WVU-FSE is located in Morgantown, West Virginia, home to West Virginia University, one of the nation's major doctoral-granting, research institutions. Morgantown is approximately 75 miles south of Pittsburgh. WVU-FSE is located at the State Fire Training Center on Monongahela Blvd., across from the WVU Coliseum.
How long has WVU-FSE existed?
WVU was founded in 1867 as a land-grant institution. In 1914 the Smith-Lever Act establishing a national Extension Service was signed into law. West Virginia was among the first 12 states to
“ take the university to the people.” WVU-FSE history.
WVU-FSE held its first State Fire School in 1931. Many firefighters helped develop the first WVU-FSE curriculum.
