FF1. FIREFIGHTER 1* -- Mon - Fri 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

40 hours of training in the basic firefighter training program.

40 hours of training in the Second Level of the WVU firefighter training program.

FF3. FIRE INSTRUCTOR -- Mon - Fri 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
National Fire Instructor I certification program required for all who want to be Fire Service Extension Field instructors and those desiring to advance to Fire Officer II. Certificates required.

FF4. FIRE OFFICER II -- Mon - Fri 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
National Fire Officer II certification program meeting the requirements of NFPA 1021. Certification as a Fire Officer I and Educational Methodology is a pre-requisite to taking this class. Certificates required.

FF5. HAZARDOUR MATERIALS TECHNICIAN -- Mon - Fri 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
This course meets NFPA 472 requirements for HazMat Technician and involves significant classroom and hands-on training in chemical emergency response scenarios.

FF6. EMERGENCY RESPONSE TO TERRORISM: (TRAIN THE TRAINER) -- Mon - Tue 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
STRATEGIC CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE COMMAND OFFICER
This course is designed to introduce the experienced Command Officer to emergency response to terrorism. This course should give the Command Officer the ability to focus on the global strategic considerations and unique aspects introduced into emergency operations by the nature of terrorist events. It has planning emphasis, and includes recognizing clues that a terrorist incident is in progress.

FF7. MCTO: PREPARATION -- Mon - Tues 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
MCTO: P is designed to procide a basic foundation for the management of one or more companies operating at a structural fire emergency. The focus of these five modules is a review of basic concepts and development of proficiency in critical skills. Key content includes: roles and responsibilities, readiness, communication, building construction and fire behavior factors and preincident preparation.

FF8. R.I.T. TEAM OPERATIONS -- Mon - Wed 8a.m. - 5 p.m.

This training program meets NFPA 1500's requirements for Rapid Intervention Teams. Multiple scenarios involving rescue of downed firefighters will be offered, teaching firefighters will be offered, teaching firefighters performing this valuable function how to breach walls, lift collapsed structural elements, perform "hot" SCBA changes and to even learn valuable "self-rescue" procedures.

FF9. ARSON DETECTION FOR FIRST RESPONDERS -- Sat- Sun 9a.m. - 5 p.m.
New National Fire Academy course. Beginning level of fire cause and determination, basic scene investigation, evidence collection and elements required to prove arson.

FF10. LEADERSHIP 3 -- Wed 8 a.m. - Thu 5 p.m.
Designed to meet the needs of the company officer, this course provides the participant with basic skills and tools needed to perform effective as a leader in the fire service environment. This course addresses how to delegate to subordinates, assessing personal leadership styles through situational leadership, when and how to discipline subordinates, and coaching/motivating techniques for the company officer.

FF11. DRIVER/OPERATOR - NATIONAL CERTIFICATION PROGRAM -- Mon- Fri 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Learn about single-stage, multi-stage centrifugal pumps and how they operate. Become a better engineer and master those water movement problems. Classroom and hands-on training including pumping, drafting, emergency vehicle preoperation inspections, emergency vehicle driving, and more. If you are able to bring a fire truck please call the office.

FF12. PUBLIC FIRE SAFETY EDUCATION -- Sat- Sun 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Course provided instruction for firefighters and others on how to adapt fire safety lessons and topics to "target" audiences (such as seniors, preschoolers, teenagers, etc.); also an overview of public fire safety education programs and available resources (SFMO & other) for fire dept and the communities they serve.

FF14. EXPLOSIVES RECOGNITION FOR PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS -- Sat- Sun 9a.m. - 4 p.m.

Introduction to hazards of explosive terrorist devices, recognition of different types of explosive devices, common terminology, and hazards to personnel. May include detonation of a device as part of out-of-class activity.

FF15. BUILDING COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR YOUR FD/EMS -- Fri 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
This workshop is based on the premise that good community relations will greatly enhance the capacity of your fire department/EMS to: (1) attract financial support, (2) recruit and retain volunteers, and (3) increase public support for the adoption of sound fire and accident prevention practices. needs, opportunities and strategies for building community support will be covered including such topics as community relations, media relations, coalition building, developing effective proposals and presentations, obtaining resources, conducting special events, and becoming politically active. Workshop participants will be asked to share successful community relations and fund-raising activities in their respective communities.

FF17. BOMB TECHNICIAN ASSISTANT -- Fri 8a.m. - 5 p.m.
Learn what it takes to assist the WVSFMO and WVSPOL Special Operatios Group when they get called to the scene of an actual or suspected explosives incident. Course includes hands-on training with the bomb truck, bomb suits, robot, disruptors, and more. Students must pass a criminal background check. Go to your local police agency and have a fingerprint card done and mail in with your registration

FF18. INCIDENT COMMAND SYSTEM -- Sat- Sun 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
one of the recommended officer's courses, ICS teaches the National Fire Academy's Model Incident Management System using a wide variety of incident scenarios.

FF19. ARSON 3 - ARSON AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM

Learn about the criminal justice system, pre-trial and trial procedures, and how you can improve the chances that an arsonist might go to jail. Course involves expert witness testimony and expert witness qualification courtroom scenarios.

FF22. HAZ MAT AWARENESS OPERATIONS-- Sat - Sun 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
This course meets all OSHA/EPA requirements for certification at the Hazardous Materials First Responder Awareness and Operations levels. It includes classroom activities as well as diking, damming, diverting, decontamination, and personal protective clothing activities. Train-the-Trainer recognition will also be offered for this course. You must have Instructor 1, IRHMI: BC/CI or above.

Two days of intense hands-on operations required in structural firefighting culminating in structural fire attack (multi-level) in WVU's burn building.

FF24. ARSON LEVEL 2 - SCENE EXAMINATION -- Mon - Tue 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Prerequisite for this course is completion of level 1. Students are given an actual scenario to work and present as a case. 16 hours, boots, gloves, and hard hat are required for practical exercise.

FF25. MCTO: DECISION MAKING -- Mon - Thur Evenings 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m
MCTO: DM provides an effective approach to commnad decision-making and organization. Key content includes: the command sequence; size-up; developing an actin plan; implementing the action plan; and introduction to the incident command system.

R1. CONFINED SPACE RESCUE AWARENESS AND OPERATIONS *-- Wed - Fri 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Three days of rigorous hands-on practical training and education about confined spaces, OSHA definitions and requirements, hauling, rigging, supplied air respiratory protection and many rescue scenarios involving vertical and horizontal confined spaces.

R2. ROPE RESCUE AWARENESS*-- Mon- Tue 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Basic knots, hitches, rope care and maintenance, basic patient access and packaging. Newly developed NFPA 1670 compliant program.

R3. ROPE RESCUE OPERATIONS * -- Sat- Sun 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Second level of rope rescue training. Course topics include Site control and scene management, edge protection, Knot recognition, Anchor selection, Belay devices, Rescue operations communications and safety, Rope-based mechanical advantage systems, and Patient transport.

R4. SWIFTWATER AWARENESS -- Thur 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
First level of swiftwater rescue training. Course topics will include II. NFPA 1670, Organizational Role and Objective, the Drowning Problem, Water Types, River Reading, Rescue Failure, Logistics, Hand Signals, Risk Benefit, Environmental Concerns, Flood Characteristics, Response Strategies, and Types of Water Rescue. Train-the-Trainer recognition will also be offered for this course. You must have Instructor 1, and Swiftwater Operations or above.

R5. RESCUE SCENARIOS* -- Mon- Tue 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
This hands-on class will present the student with a wide variety of rescue scenarios. The student will be challenged mentally and physically with each scenario. Problem-solving and teamwork will help complete each scenario. Safety and the use of the incident command system will be stressed. After each scenario has been completed, the class will critique the scenario. this will be a fast-paced class involving moving to different sites a number of times. All students must come prepared to work and learn.
Prerequisite: Firefighter 1, rope rescue, auto extrication and use of scuba required. All certificates required and must be sent in with preregistration. Full bunker gear and SCBA/spare bottle required.

R6. AIR BAGS LIFTING/RESCUE* -- Tue- Thur 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
This class will be a basic introduction to the use of high and low pressure air bags in vehicular rescue. Air bag theory, construction, and safety issues will be addressed. Class emphasis will be on lifting and shoring operations in a variety of situations.

R7. FARM RESCUE NEW* -- Sat - Sun 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
This course was designed to provide FF/EMS personnel with knowledge of farm accidents, farm hazards, and general rescue/extrication procedures. Classroom, lecture and field exercises on tractor, power take off and farm implement stabilization, rescue and extrication procedures. The course concentrates on agriculture incidents for the local area. Full turn-out gear required.

Trenching, shoring and removing trapped victims from those most unstable of spaces. Train-the-Trainer recognition will also be offered for this course. You must have Instructor 1, and Trench Operations level or higher.

Continuation of techniques required for safely rescuing victims of trench emergencies. Use of the latest in power tools and pneumatic trench shores.

R10. SEARCH MANAGEMENT FOR THE INITIAL RESPONSE - NEW* Wed - Thurs 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
This 16 hour classroom based course is designed to provide an orientation on both search and rescue management concepts, with emphasis on the basic concepts that will assist the participant in the planning of the "initial response" operational period.

R11. CANINE SEARCH OPERATIONS- NEW* Fri 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
This 8 hour classroom based course is designed to provide the participant with knowledge about canine search operations in a wilderness, rural or urban environment. The primary objective is to enable a team leader/field leader or search manager to integrate the work efforts of canine teams in a more coordinated, efficient and safe manner.
