How are job vacancies advertised?
Faculty, faculty equivalent, or graduate assistant vacancies are posted to both Extension websites and in the appropriate professional publications to attract potential applicants. Classified vacancies are posted to both Extension websites and the WVU Jobs Bulletin which is published each Thursday. County-based vacancies are advertised in the local newspaper market to attract potential applicants.

How do I apply for an Extension vacancy?
Applicants for faculty, faculty equivalent, or graduate assistant employment must submit a credentials packet for each position for which they wish to be considered. The credentials packet consists of cover letter, resume or vitae, and all necessary supporting material which is sent to WVU Extension Service, Human Resources, PO Box 6031, Morgantown WV 26506-6031.

Applicants for classified employment MUST complete a WVU Application for Employment, Promotion, or Transfer and Self Identification Form. The application and inserts remain active for one year. A WVU Position Interest Form is submitted for each position to be considered. Applications and PIFs for classifed employment are sent directly to the WVU Human Resources Office, Employment Unit, PO Box 6640, Morgantown WV 26506-6640.

What qualifications do I need?
Master degrees are the minimum for faculty and faculty equivalent vacancies and the area of study is specific to the type of vacancy. Experience needed will be determined by the vacancy search committee.

Qualifications for classified vacancies are determined by the position classification.

What happens if my application is received after the vacancy closing date?
Only those applications received by the posting closing date can be considered in the screening process. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure the timely receipt of the credentials or applications in the respective offices.

Are there any employment restrictions?
All vacancies are subject to EEOC laws. In the case of non-exempt classified vacancies, they are subject to provisions of the Higher Education Advocacy Team (HEAT) bill in which internal applicants who meet the minimum qualifications of the vacancy must be considered prior to consideration of external applicants. An except to this is in the case of an external underutilized applicant who meets the minimum qualifications of the vacancy will be considered equally with the internal applicants. Internal applicants who have current disciplinary letters in their Central HR personnel files will not be considered for referral until such letters have been purged from the files. Internal applicants in probationary periods of their current positions must have a written release from their supervisors to pursue internal transfers.

How long does my application remain active?
Applications for faculty, faculty equivalent, or graduate assistant employment remain active through the closing date for the specific vacancy applied. Applications for classified employment remain active for one year.

Can I leave my application at any Extension Office?
No. Applicants must send their application packets for classified vacancies to: WVU Human Resources, Employment Office, PO Box 6640, Morgantown, WV 26506-6640.

It is on the second floor of One Waterfront Place, Don Knotts Boulevard, Morgantown, WV. TIP: If you park on the top level of the adjacent parking garage, the HR Office is to the right of the elevators as you enter the building from the top level.

Who is eligible for tuition waivers?
Benefit eligible employees can receive up to six credit hours tuition waived per fall or spring semesters and up to six credit hours per each summer session. See University Tax Information regarding the taxation of tuition waivers. Graduate assistants receive up to nine credit hours of tuition waived for fall and spring semesters and six credit hours per each summer session.

Who is eligible for federal benefits?
Those Extension faculty members who held USDA Federal Schedule A appointments through January 31, 2003. All new faculty have state appointments only.
