Media Invited:
2-Story Mobile Training Unit to ‘Burn’ for Fire Dept., WVU Officials

To be archived (CEWD) after 06/0207

Local media are invited to join WVU President David C. Hardesty and his cabinet as they tour the new two-story, 53-foot-long Mobile Fire Training Unit of the West Virginia University Fire Service Extension at 9:30 a.m. Thursday (May 31) in WVU Parking Lot 25 (on Prospect Street behind the Mountainlair.).

At 10 a.m., the media may observe the Morgantown Fire Department complete a “training evolution” through the unit.  The firefighters will be challenged by smoke, flames, sights, sounds and obstacles of commercial and residential structural fires.

The sessions will be led by WVU Fire Service Extension instructors.  The safe system is controlled from an observation room by a lead instructor who can shut down the operations and ventilate the unit’s interior within 45 to 60 seconds.

Environmentally sound, the Mobile Fire Training Unit is fueled by clean-burning propane. It generates benign smoke that does not disturb the community.

More information about the unit and the WVU Fire Service Extension will be available at the training. Fire Service Extension is a program of the West Virginia University Extension Service. Additional information is also available on the Web (www.ext.wvu.edu).
