Health educators, clinicians and others working in the field of diabetes are invited to question and learn from national experts during West Virginia University’s award-winning diabetes symposium Oct.18-20 at the Embassy Suites in Charleston.
This year’s Bridging the Gap with Education: Diabetes Symposium and Workshop features 10 presenters who will help healthcare professionals learn the latest treatment advances, nutritional information and prevention techniques.
The diabetes experts—researchers and practitioners—will explore the challenges and opportunities of providing education and support to individuals with diabetes and their families.
Two speakers are well-known to both health professionals and the general public. Dr. David L. Katz and Dr. Tim Church are famous for their work in diabetes prevention and care.
Katz is an associate professor of public health and director of the Prevention
Research Center at the Yale University School of Medicine. He has become
familiar to the public for his columns in O—The Oprah Magazine and The
New York Times.
Church is the medical director and vice president for Medical/Laboratory Research
of The Cooper Institute in Dallas, Texas. Church is frequently used
as an expert in obesity and exercise. He has been interviewed by NBC’s “Today
Show,” USA Today, TIMEmagazine, Reuters, The Washington Post and CNN.
A nationally recognized event, the Diabetes Symposium and Workshop is sponsored by the WVU Extension Service, WVU Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center and the West Virginia Diabetes Prevention and Control Program.
The program can provide continuing education hours for physicians, physician
assistants, nurses, dentists, dietitians, dietary managers, social workers,
community heath education specialists and American Association of Family and
Consumer Sciences members.
For registration details and other program information, visit the symposium’s
Web site (www.ext.wvu.edu/dsw2006) or contact Guen Brown, WVU Extension Service
