Once again, West Virginia University Extension Service has honored Kelly Quinn, Tyler County’s WVU Extension agent, for her outstanding achievements.
The New Employee Excellence Award was presented to Quinn recently during the annual faculty and staff awards ceremony held at WVU Jackson’s Mill State 4-H Camp, Weston. The award honors an Extension employee of three years or less who has made significant strides toward excellence in his or her job performance.
In 2004, Quinn began serving Tyler County residents as the local WVU Extension agent and Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension instructor. The New Employee Excellence Award acknowledges her success in starting new programs and enhancing established programs.
Because she is the only WVU Extension agent in Tyler County, Quinn is responsible for providing educational programs supporting agriculture as well as those related to 4-H, families and health development. As the office’s county program coordinator, she also manages all aspects of the local WVU Extension office.
The scope of her outreach includes the county’s calf pool, 4-H program, Farm Safety Day Camp, health education classes, Dining with Diabetes, Energy Express (summer reading and nutrition program), diversity education classes and the Community Educational Outreach Service.
In 2005, Quinn was a member of two teams honored for their educational service to residents of their communities. Along with colleagues from throughout West Virginia, Quinn was recognized for her work with the WVU-ES Dining with Diabetes Team and the WVU-ES Social Justice Committee.
Quinn and other community-based Extension faculty work on local issues with families, businesses and organizations through offices in each of the state’s 55 counties. WVU-ES’s four major program areas are 4-H Youth Development; Families and Health; Agriculture and Natural Resources; and Community, Economic and Workforce Development. Information about WVU-ES programs is available on the Web (www.ext.wvu.edu).
The WVU Tyler County Extension office is located at 311 Main St. in Middlebourne.
