Barbour County Points of Pride

- Barbour County is a leader in developing marketing strategies for feeder
calves and grass. Extension management programs are instrumental tools for
beef farmers. Soil sampling, soil test interpretation, water facilities planning,
fencing, forage management, cow herd health and management, soil fertility
management, and safe pesticide use are some programs offered to farmers. Got
a farm? Need help? Call us!
- Lawn and garden questions? We handle about 500 per year, so call us!
- Extension's fun-filled 4-H youth program includes camp, projects, nine
community-based clubs, and 36 volunteer leaders. Developing youths' skills
in leadership, communication, citizenship, and careers is what we do! Barbour
County 4-H'ers continue to win state gold ribbons for their visual presentations.
- Extension's 4-H agriculture programs helped 60 members learn how to produce,
manage, market, and evaluate animals, homesites, and soils. Local 4-H'ers
are the current state and national champions in land and homesite judging.
They were successful in county and state fairs.
- We address questions about nutrition, food safety, and family issues via
the Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS) volunteers. The County's
nine CEOS clubs have more than 150 members.
- If you need information, we can help you find it. Expect success with Barbour
County Extension!
