Boone County Points of Pride

- Eighty 4-H members and 15 volunteers complete projects and participate in
community service activities.
- Thirty campers and 16 volunteers attended a
weeklong residential county camp last year.
- Five 4-H volunteers attended the Northeast Regional Volunteer Leaders’ Forum.
- About 250 elementary school students are enrolled in the youth Expanded
Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP).
- With the theme “Blasting Nutrition into 2000,” day camps at Ramage and Sherman
schools involved about 40 students each.
- Through the adult EFNEP program, 57 limited-resource families learn how
to stretch their food dollars and prepare healthful meals.
- Extension works with the 75 members of the Corridor G Beekeepers Association,
who cooperatively market their honey products.
- The office received a grant for $18,500 from the Center for Rural Health
Development to study local health care. Economic developers and health care
providers will use the findings as a marketing tool.
- Energy Express, a summer reading and nutrition program at two county grade
schools, involved 80 students and 10 local college students who served as
mentors.
- The Dining with Diabetes cooking schools in Whitesville and Wharton attracted
80 people.
