Hampshire County Points of Pride

- Participants in a Dining with Diabetes cooking class learned how to control
blood sugar and eat the right foods.
- Energy Express and Romney Elementary School offered reading and writing
activities and nutritious meals for elementary-school-age children last summer.
- Clinton Bowman, Merle Lambert, and Jennifer Gray represented Hampshire County
at National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga.
- The FFA Alumni Association and Extension cosponsored three educational dinner
meetings for more than 550 local farmers. Thirty additional meetings in 11
other counties drew more than 3,000 people.
- Sixteen people are enrolled in the Master Gardener Program.
- The Hampshire County Beef Marketing Group received $112,000 to continue
its niche-market, value-added beef project.
- Youths and adults who participated in the Hampshire County 4-H Reading Festival
during “Let’s Make a Difference Day” attended workshops, read books, participated
in puppet shows, and gave reading demonstrations.
- County junior and senior teams placed second at the state 4-H Horticulture
Contest. The senior poultry team earned second place, and the junior forestry
team placed first in their state competitions. The 4-H/Jaycee Shooting Sports
Team competed in the national contest in Atlanta, Ga.
