Hancock County Points of Pride

- The Extension agent worked with 45 organized groups, including 10 youth
groups, eight elementary schools, 120 volunteers, and six Community Educational
Outreach Service (CEOS) clubs.
- The Master Gardener program continues to grow. Participants have given
more than 4,329 hours in community service over the past six years; 80 percent
of the trained Master Gardeners have been recertified.
- The three Northern Panhandle Extension agents coordinated four farm educational
dinner meetings during the winter. This statewide initiative helped farmers
rebound after the serious drought and provided information on farm production
and management.
- The agent educated local homeowners and farmers about applying pesticides
and fertilizers safely and worked with 24 private and nine commercial pesticide
applicators in certification and recertification programs. Soil test assistance
was provided for 145 consumers.
- Extension worked with 2,546 youths in various programs and activities.
The children represent 31 percent of the county's youth population.
- The 100 CEOS club members in six clubs participate in many service activities,
promote breast cancer awareness, donate library books to schools, and conduct
educational programs.
