Lewis County Points of Pride

- Whether you have a bug, a weed, or a dying plant, Extension can answer your
gardening questions. Free garden calendars are available at the office.
- Reading ... good food ... a safe summer environment ... learning from college
student mentors: All are part of the six-week Energy Express Program for elementary
students.
- Extension provides farm management and production education on such topics
as herd health, sheep nutrition, and beef cattle management.
- Nine Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS) clubs provide monthly
lessons, workshops, and service projects.
- Area cattle producers have many marketing options, from selling groups of
prevaccinated, farm fresh calves to conducting the feedlot test.
- Three hundred 4-H members, aided by adult and teen leaders, participate
in club, county, state, national, and international activities. Livestock
projects are popular among local 4-H members. Students in four school clubs
study West Virginia’s history and heritage.
- Families improve their diets through a series of nutrition and resource
management lessons led by an Extension associate.
- Diabetics and caregivers gain skills in meal planning and preparation through
three-session diabetes cooking schools.
