Marshall County Points of Pride

- The 250 Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS) members in 23 local
clubs conducted many community and educational programs including the Festival
of Ideas.
- A total of 1,630 students attended 72 health, nutrition, family relations,
and resource management workshops. Healthy eating, diabetes education, communicating
with children, and breast cancer detection were among the topics covered.
- The Festival of Ideas at the "Barn" and the Elizabethtown Festival in the
former West Virginia Penitentiary drew 8,000 people. The 300 volunteers staged
200 activities. Community groups earned about $25,000.
- The county's two Energy Express sites reached 84 students in 2001. The
six-week summer reading and nutrition program involved 145 volunteers.
- More than 500 youths belong to the county's 23 4-H clubs. Members displayed
450 project exhibits and showed more than 250 animals at the Marshall County
Fair.
- The Extension office assisted with four education dinner meetings on agricultural
topics, which were attended by 294 people.
- Nearly 50 people attended a workshop on pond problems and solutions, and
30 gardeners and homeowners attended a pest identification clinic.
- Master Gardeners assisted with more than 150 consumer gardening questions
and distributed more than 300 fact sheets and 300 garden calendars.
