Mason County Points of Pride

- “Soaring into the Future” was the theme for 14 Cloverbud clubs, which now
have 161 members.
- Agent Wallbrown is active with the Southern Bull and Replacement Heifer
Test. This station, located in Mason County, has 120 bulls and 226 heifers
on test.
- The 493 members of 22 community 4-H clubs and 180 adult leaders took part
in more than 18 county activities. Teen leaders are eligible to participate
in three geographically based groups for enhancing leadership skills.
- Contract feeding of beef cattle is becoming an enterprise in Mason County.
Over 600 head of cattle are being fed for other producers.
- The six Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS) clubs have 96 members.
- Wallbrown is involved in the new statewide Extended Grazing Project. Demonstration
sites are being established.
- Postsecondary education becomes more affordable for local youths receiving
scholarships from the Ohio Valley Bank, the CEOS, and the Jackson Foundation.
- Dining with Diabetes was a pilot program involving 34 diabetics, spouses,
and caregivers.
- During the 1999 drought, Wallbrown organized relief efforts including setting
up three water stations, securing five tanks for loan, and appearing on West
Virginia Public Radio.
