- Your Pendleton County Extension Service answers questions on food preservation
and safety, nutrition, and family life; develops nutrient management plans;
provides free soil tests; and identifies pests and plant diseases. Have a
problem? Call us!
- Through 11 community 4-H clubs, 220 youths led by 100 volunteers develop
leadership, citizenship, and communication skills. Last year, they completed
more than 400 educational projects, and devoted many hours to community service.
County camp attracted 135 4-H’ers.
- This county is a leader in developing marketing strategies for feeder calves.
Beef producers cooperatively marketed 2,000 calves through the W.Va. Quality
Assurance Feeder Cattle Program.
- A parenting newsletter is sent home monthly with 390 children in kindergarten
through third grade. Some 132 students are involved in a 4-H school enrichment
program; the Cloverbud program involves 47 young children. 4-H teen leaders
assist after-school program tutors and serve as postsecondary education mentors.
- Community Educational Outreach Service members hosted the Area Meeting for
162 participants, cosponsored the annual health fairs, and gained leadership
experience.
- Four local 4-H members represented West Virginia in the National 4-H Poultry
and Egg Contest in Louisville, Ky.
