Putnam County Points of Pride

- Training in agriculture, economic development, and natural resources drew
3,206 participants in 2002.
- More than 860 elementary-school-age children and 35 teachers participated
in “Just for Kids, Making Food Choices,” an activity-packed, nutrition
education curriculum developed by Agent Summers.
- Members of the Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS) continue to
improve the lives of at-risk children by helping the county Head Start program.
- Putnam County’s older adults were part of a statewide research project
that studied the effect of fall-related training in the Active for Life exercise
program.
- More than 100 adult volunteers served as mentors to 380 youths enrolled
in 18 community 4-H clubs.
- A total of 160 youths who participated in the county 4-H livestock program
gained skills in raising, fitting, grooming, showing, and selling their animals.
The 4-H livestock auction raised $93,294.
- “4-H Takes an All-American Road Trip,” the 2002 4-H camp program,
provided an opportunity for 112 youths, including 31 underprivileged children,
and 12 special-needs children to develop positive relationships.
