Randolph County Points of Pride

- Is something eating more of your garden than you are? Need a soil sample
tested? Extension can help. We answer some 450 lawn, garden and pest control
questions every year. The 25 new certified Master Gardeners provided 750 hours
of community service last year.
- Randolph County was home to the first 4-H camp ever conducted, Camp Goodluck.
Since 1915, 4-H members have been learning positive life skills, citizenship,
and leadership skills through camping. More than 200 members attend three
camps each year.
- The county has 13 community 4-H clubs, 380 community club members, 85 volunteers,
and 35 teen leaders. Ask us how you can get involved in 4-H!
- Thanks to Energy Express, a summer reading and nutrition program, 88 Mill
Creek and Coalton area youngsters are reading better.
- The Community Educational Outreach Service volunteers improve their communities
through cancer awareness programs, Military Mail Call, and other service activities.
- Extension faculty and staff are involved in community issues. We partner
with many agencies and individuals including the Family Resource Network,
Convention & Visitors Bureau, Recreation Board, Farm Bureau, Livestock Marketing
Association, Shavers Fork Watershed Coalition, Mountain Partners in Community
Development, Project Impact, Elkins Farmers Market Association.
- Our research helps livestock producers determine pasture quality and save
money.
