Ritchie County Points of Pride

- 4-H camp can have a positive life-changing impact on a child. More than
40 adult volunteers share values and provide a sense of belonging in an inclusive
camp environment for 100 children.
- 4-H involves 61 adult volunteers who help 165 youths learn about leadership,
citizenship, communication, and public service.
- Second-graders participate in a five-session beginners’ 4-H Cloverbud
program in the winter and in a 4-H day camp in June.
- Each summer, Energy Express activities help more than 40 local children
rediscover the joys of reading. Children not only reverse typical summertime
reading losses, but they also increase their reading achievement.
- By pooling their feeder calves, livestock producers are generating as much
as a $5 to $7 per-head price advantage over traditionally sold cattle. Beef
cattle short courses and agronomy newsletters provide information to area
farmers.
- Fourth-graders participate in an agriculture poster contest, and fifth-graders
have the opportunity to tour farms.
- Community Educational Outreach Service club members sponsor or partner with
other groups to carry out many programs.
- The Dining with Diabetes cooking schools help diabetics learn to plan and
prepare meals.
- Thanks to community groups, the 4-H campground has been extensively remodeled;
it has new shower stalls, plumbing fixtures, water lines, and kitchen equipment.
