Taylor County Points of Pride

- The local 4-H program reaches 197 youths and 25 adult leaders in 13 4-H
clubs and two Cloverbud clubs. One county 4-H’er was chosen to attend the
1999 National 4-H Conference. Four others were selected for the 4-H Congress.
- Five youths participated in the state 4-H horticulture judging contest;
one placed third in individual scoring.
- The 55 4-H and FFA members in the Taylor County Junior Livestock Association
earned more than $57,000 in the annual Livestock Exhibit and Auction.
- The 187 members of the Community Educational Outreach Service hosted the
exhibit barn at the county fair. Members give their time and talents to local
charities.
- Energy Express, a statewide reading and nutrition program, was offered at
the Flemington Elementary School.
- Extension’s Right Bite diabetes cooking school held three classes and a
follow-up reunion for 27 people.
- Extension takes part in the North Central Community Action garden program
to help less-fortunate families grow and can their own produce.
- The first Taylor/Harrison First-Year Overnighter, a weekend mini-camp, was
held at Camp Towles. Fourteen first-year 4-H’ers from Taylor County attended.
