Tyler County Points of Pride

- 4-H members gain leadership skills, life skills, and knowledge. Tyler County’s
4-H program has grown to include more than 115 members. If you’re between
the ages of 9 and 21, you can become a 4-H member and participate in community
club meetings, forestry and stockmen’s contests, 4-H camp, and much
more!
- 4-H members exhibited 112 projects at the most recent county fair. Their
success included eight show cattle and 30 market animals. The market livestock
sale netted $136,249.30.
- Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS) volunteers donated more than
13,897 hours of service and $3,910 in cash to our community.
- All Tyler County fifth-graders learned safety practices at the annual Farm
Safety Day Camp. This potentially life-saving program is sponsored by the
Tyler County Farm Bureau and coordinated by Kelly Quinn, Extension agent
in the Tyler County office of the West Virginia University Extension Service.
- As an Extension educator, Kelly Quinn also works closely with the Health
Raisers to bring residents programs to improve their health. Sessions include
yoga classes, aerobic classes, walking clubs, activity days, dance lessons,
and dances. Numerous educational presentations also are offered throughout
the year.
- Fourteen area farmers sold feeder calves in the Tyler County Calf Pool.
The farmers saved money by buying feed and vaccines in bulk and by selling
their calves by the truck load at above market prices.
- WVU Extension’s new Nutrition Outreach Instructor teaches Tyler County
fourth- and fifth-graders how they can choose healthy foods for a tasty diet.
- Don’t guess! Soil test! Receive recommendations and grow a better
garden. Call your WVU Tyler County Extension Office to ask for a free soil
