Webster County Points of Pride

- Six people participating in The Right Bite diabetic cooking school gained
valuable knowledge about preparing foods for people with diabetes. Diabetes
information, food preparation demonstrations, and food tasting filled the
agenda.
- 4-H members earn fee reductions for county 4-H camp by doing community service
work at Camp Caesar; 90 4-H members performed 477 hours of work last year,
earning more than $1,000 in camp fee reductions. They also gained valuable
skills and developed a commitment to community service.
- Energy Express continues to help younger students maintain educational achievement
and nutrition levels during the summer. Last year, 96 students participated
in this creative reading program at two sites. Also, 14 mentors gained valuable
experience and money to support their college education. Major local partners
are Webster County Schools and Mountain Community Action Program.
- 4-H provides a safe place to learn, a relationship with a caring adult,
marketable skills, a healthy start, and an opportunity to give back to the
community for more than 225 youths.
- Three home gardening workshops held in collaboration with H.O.P.E. United
Food Pantry attracted 57 gardeners.
- 4-H camping continues to grow. The 130 4-H campers experienced group living
and developed skills in citizenship, leadership, and communication. Forty
adult volunteers helped with camp.
