WVU Extension Hosts WVU's Service to the State
Meeting Your Legislators
When
you and your groups visit legislators, be prepared.
Here are conversation starters. These will also
be provided in a small
card format for Tuesday, February 19. They are "short and sweet," which legislators
appreciate, and are an effective way to tell each
legislator a little bit about the WVU Extension
Service.
- Remember, lawmakers are interested in your ideas
and they like hearing from their hometown. So relax!
- Be sure to let legislators know that you appreciate
their taking time to meet with you.
- Be brief and to the point. Practice ahead of
time what you will say. If you are visiting in
a group, be sure to designate a spokesperson
to deliver your messages.
Suggested Conversation Starters
- We're from ________________ County (or WVU-ES
office) and represent the ________________ WVU
Extension Program (CEOS, 4-H, Master Gardeners,
etc.). WVU Extension is important in my community
because ________________.
- We thank you and your fellow legislators for
last year's appropriation to renovate the Mount
Vernon Dining Hall at WVU Jackson's Mill. We’d
appreciate your continued financial support for
the Mill.
- WVU is important in our state, and we need
to keep each county's WVU Extension office open
and increase the number of agents to serve West
Virginia.
- Thank you for supporting WVU Extension
Service.
