***Attention Students***

WVU’s refund policy will be changing beginning with Fall 2007 semester. Students dropping courses during the first week of classes will be refunded at 100%. After the first week of classes, students will no longer be refunded for dropping courses and only students completely withdrawing from the University within the refund period will be eligible for a tuition and fee refund. Please see the refund schedule below for the last date for which a student withdrawing will be eligible for a refund.

Financial Aid Refunds
Amounts received in excess of your charges will be refunded to you automatically unless restrictions require that excess amounts be returned to another entity.

  • Refund checks cannot be mailed until funds are received and posted to your account.
    • Please note that PLUS loan refunds are refunded to parents unless the parent has authorized disbursement to the student directly
  • WVU students generally receive their refund checks by the end of the first week of classes each semester, if not sooner.
  • You must have registered for the appropriate number of hours and signed any necessary promissory notes in order to receive a refund.
  • Arrange to sign your promissory note with the Financial Aid Office.
  • Your refund check will be mailed to your Refund Address if you have established one. IF you do not have a Refund Address, your refund will be mailed to your Local Mailing Address. You may check your addresses on-line at www.mix.wvu.edu. The addresses of students living in University Housing are updated automatically.

Refunds Due to Dropped Courses or Withdrawal
Students withdrawing from the University or dropping courses below full-time status within the refund period are eligible for a tuition and fee refund in accordance with the University's fee schedule and refund procedures.

  • Refunds are usually processed within 30 calendar days of the dropping of the course or withdrawal from the institution.
  • Refunds for amounts less than $5 are processed by request only.

The refund schedule is determined by the Higher Education Policy Commission.
