Local Golden Key Chapter Wins International Award

(CHICAGO, September 2003) The prestigious Key Chapter Award was presented to members of the West Virginia University Chapter of Golden Key International Honour Society at the August 2003 Golden Key International Convention, “Passport to the World,” in Chicago, IL.

The selection of Key Chapter Award winners marks a 21-year tradition for the Society.  The award honors chapters that have excelled in five major areas: communication, publicity, meeting management, chapter activities and leadership, as well as in participation in regional and international programs.

The West Virginia University Chapter exemplifies teamwork and dedication. The success of the chapter is due to the commitment of the chapter’s officers and the high quality of events and activities they have held over the past 12 months including; a Sophomore Recognition Program, an Honorary Member Reception and the annual Golden Apple Awards.

Delegates from the West Virginia University Chapter accepted the award at the convention’s awards luncheon in front of more than 1,000 delegates from around the world.  All chapters may apply for this award; however, only the most outstanding is selected to receive the honor. Robert Kent, Director of the Career Services Center and Keith Garbutt, Director of University Honors Program, serve as advisors to the local chapter.

Golden Key International Honour Society was founded more than 25 years ago in Atlanta, Georgia and provides academic recognition to college juniors and seniors in the top 15 percent of their class. The mission of the global, non-profit Society is to build global communities of academic achievers by providing opportunities for individual growth through leadership, career development, networking and service.
