WVU's Golden Key Wins Awards
MORGANTOWN, WV. - The WVU Chapter of Golden Key International Honour
Society recently attended Golden key International Honuor Society's
26th Annual Convention in Chicago, Ill.
At the Convention, Chapter President, Allison Fleming, a Spanish and
History major from Ravenswood, WV accompanied by six of her WVU
Delegates on stage accepted the prestigious Key Chapter Award on behalf
of the Chapter. The Award, presented to 25 chapters worldwide out of
335 member chapters that measure up to required Chapter Standards
regarding community service and campus involvement.
The Chapter also won First Place in Campus Awareness and outgoing
President, Stephanie Taylor, a 2003 Public Relations Graduate from
Clarksburg, WV was named as a one of twelve 2003 Golden Key Scholar
Award Winners, receiving a $10,000 stipend for Law School at West
Virginia University.
During the awards ceremony, Gale Rhodes, Council President from the
University of Louisville recognized the Chapter "as one that raises the
bar for others in serving their community."
Present at the awards ceremony, Robert Kent, Faculty Advisor said,
"These student leaders have achieved their distinction by having
opportunity presented to them. They have developed the opportunity to
be of service to their community that was at hand. As their Advisor, I
could not be more proud of a group of students. They represent West
Virginia University extremely well."
During the year, the students conducted the Chapter's Induction
Ceremony, held two Kaplan campus test drives, partnered in helping
United Way raise $10, 000 for "Rockin On The Riverfront", assisted
BOPARC in "Help Save The Rock", published two newsletters, sponsored
the Golden Apple Ceremony in recognizing outstanding faculty, conducted
Sophomore Recognition, held an Honorary Member Reception, assisted with
Toy Mountain, held Graduate Night Out, and cooked dinner for residents
at Rosenbaum and Ronald McDonald Houses.
Golden Key International Honour Society was Chartered at Georgia State
University in 1977 .Golden Key invites only the top 15 percent of
juniors and seniors to be members. Golden inducted over 95,000 members
last year. The Society also awards over a half million dollars each
in scholarships to its members. The WVU Chapter was Chartered in 1979
and inducted 350 new members in October 2002. For further information,
