Interdisciplinary Certificate Program in Disability Studies - Center for Excellence in Disabilities

The Certificate in Disability Studies will: (1) prepare students from diverse majors to serve as citizens and professionals who are knowledgeable concerning the complex economic and social issues related to disabilities; and (2) provide course offerings in nontraditional areas that emphasize disability issues as they relate to a particular field of study, thereby preparing the individual to provide services to and interact with persons with disabilities and their families. This interdisciplinary certificate requires the completion of 15 credit hours including the mandatory courses of "Disabilities and the Family" and "Disability and Society." A capstone experience is required that illustrates samples of the student's accumulated work in the area, a final essay, and an oral presentation.
