Most commercial wood engraving, unlike its fine art counterpart, has no heroes and little traceable record of its creators or their aspirations. Research on this Collection will provide a visual record of those engravers, their engravings, and the time in which they lived.

Researchers, artists, and graduate students wishing to work directly with the Collection may submit a proposal to the Division of Art, GramLee Collection, West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV 26506. Housed in the Creative Arts Center, the Collection is presently available to faculty, students, researchers, and visiting artists. A copy from future research or applications will become the property of West Virginia University and the GramLee Collection. The goals for the future are:

  1. To protect, preserve, and archive the best metal and wood engraved images in the Collection for future generations and future research.
  2. To provide a continuing resource for teaching and research by faculty, students, and visiting artists.
  3. To provide support for the Collection whenever possible through the sale of prints, and the inclusion of images in other art works, traveling exhibitions, etc.
