Header Bullet   Costs of a CIP Placement

Host families in West Virginia volunteer their homes for lodging and meals for CIP Fellows. Because of this, the cost of a placement can be quite low. Graduate degrees are desirable but not required.

Besides, most of the CIP participants ask for assistance from their employer to meet such costs as CIP Participation Fees and roundtrip airfare from the home country to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, nearest international airport to Morgantown, West Virginia.

Participation fees vary from country to country, depending upon the Per Capita Gross Domestic Product of that country. For more information, please click on the Fee Schedule.

CIP Participants are legally required to buy medical insurance. The cost depends upon your age bracket. Insurance ranges from $300-500 for the four-month duration. CIP will help with the paperwork when you arrive.

In addition to roundtrip airfare, insurance, and participation fees, WV CIP suggests that you plan on at least US$85.00 per week for spending money, and buying personal items, gifts, lunches away from home, transportation, and pleasure travel.

You will also need to pay the fee for obtaining your visa, plus $100 to be registered in the SEVIS electronic system. We will register you after you have been issued a Certificate of Eligibility, and you will repay the fee upon arrival.

You will be asked to furnish proof of ability to pay when you apply for a U.S. visa. Your bank can furnish such proof in the form of a letter. If, after you have explored all funding sources, you still need financial aid in order to participate, contact the coordinator at lky2@mail.wvnet.edu for a Financial Aid Request form. The Board of Directors annually awards some financial aid to outstanding candidates in need. The deadline for such a request is March 15.
