The Music Alive! Exchange Program allows WVU music students to study abroad during the Spring Semester by "swapping" places with a student from Brazil. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education's United States-Brazil Higher Education Consortia Program, the goal of the Music Alive! Exchange Program is to celebrate the diverse musical and cultural traditions in both North and South America.
All classes are taught in Portuguese and students will study Portugese language courses at WVU during the fall semester. Students will then enroll in intensive Portuguese language courses while in Brazil, which will fulfill GEC requirements at WVU. While abroad, students will enroll in music, independent study, Portuguese langauge, and Brazlian cultural courses.
Students will continue to pay their regular tuition and fees charges at WVU and will live in an apartment or with a host family. Students with federal aid, student loans, WVU Scholarships, and the WV Promise Scholarship may use these funds toward the program. Participants will also recieve a $3,500 stipend to assist with their travel, housing, meals, and books costs.
To apply, students must be enrolled full-time as a WVU Music Major with a minimum GPA of 2.75 and have completed at least one semester of study at WVU. In addition, students must be in good judicial standing with no major disciplinary violations.
