This program focuses on the social welfare service and policies that have developed in Costa Rica. WVU offers this program as a part of a joint effort between WVU, the University of Coast Rica in San Jose and the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare and classes will be held at WVU and in Costa Rica.
Pre-travel lectures will be held at WVU to provide background information on Coast Rican history, language, culture, and customs. Students will then have the opportunity to see the Costa Rican social service system and the socio-political environment that influences social work practices through on-site lectures and field visits.
- SW 493 or SW693: Comparative Social Welfare; 3 credits
- Pre-requisite: Students in good standing in the Bachelor of Social Work or Masters of Social Work programs at WVU.
- Price includes: WVU credits, extended learning fee, airfare, housing, some meals, insurance
- Not included: passport fees, personal expenses
