This course is designed to combine lectures with sightseeing throughout Slavic Eastern Europe. This will enhance the learning experience regarding the area’s tumultuous and rich religious history. Coursework will include lectures on many mornings, often by native professors. Students will visit historically significant European sites such as the Danube River, and religious sites such as; mosques, cathedrals, synagogues, as well as a Hindu temple.
Most of the time will be spent touring the countries of Hungary, Romania, and Serbia. The borders within this region have changed dramatically and frequently, reflecting its ethnic and religious diversity. This multiethnic region of Europe has been filled with religious and cultural diversity for centuries. Various sects of monotheistic religions such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam collectively reside in the same region resulting in a radical range of political transformation.
