Dates: June 27 to July 26, 2009

The Disegno Italia summer program provides students with the opportunity to study Italian art, design and culture. This four-week program begins at il Sillabo in San Giovanni Valdarno, located twenty minutes outside of Florence in the Tuscan countryside. At il Sillabo students will take conversational Italian language, Italian art, design, culture, history and a cooking class. As part of the cultural immersion experience students will participate in field trips to several Tuscan cities as well as Rome. In addition, students will take a cooking class in order to participate in a cultural immersion experience.

The group then will travel to Milan and spend two weeks at Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA). Their time at NABA builds upon the Italian art and design lectures covered at Il Sillabo and introduces the design culture of contemporary Italy in the design center of Milan. A choice of courses that specialize in fashion design and merchandising, interior design, graphic design, landscape architecture and product design will be offered. The courses feature lectures by professional Italian designers from each field, field trips to professional venues, and a project.

This program anticipates sophomore year completion in the student's major. Living accommodations will be in shared apartments within walking distance or a short public transportation ride from each school.
