This course is designed to promote exchange between WVU students and the Universita Degli Studi di Trento, Italy. The city of Trento offers a large variety of museums and cultural amenities including the university, yet it is small enough to allow students to navigate safely and easily around town. Trento is also well connected to the rest of Northern Italy through public transit. Numerous cultural and educational events and excursions will be offered to museums and other cultural and historical sites. Students will be hosted by local families allowing for immersion into the Italian culture and language.
This course involves both a history and a language portion. The history section will give students a broad understanding of the changes occurring in the Trentino region of Italy from the Bronze Age to the present. Students are given the opportunity to study the region from within. The language portion will also allow students to improve their ability to communicate effectively in Italian. The classroom sessions will be conducted entirely in Italian, as well as communication opportunities with host families, field trips and everyday matters. Frequent quizzes, discussions, and an oral presentation will be scheduled. Paper assignments, such as a daily journal will be maintained by each student.
