This program is designed for students and professionals in Social Work. Students will have the opportunity to spend time in Ho Chi Minh City and An Giang Province of Vietnam, examining the social issues in these areas and contrasting how they differ in urban and rural settings.
Students will also travel to Cambodia to work with Non-Government organizations focusing on human trafficking and the issues it causes. Contrasting social service organizations in the United States with those of Communist countries will expose students to how culture, history and politics influence the creation of social problems and their solutions.
During their time abroad, students will cultivate a global perspective on the nature of social problems and the methods used to address them. Students will be given the opportunity to experience how the infrastructure of a country limits the opportunities of its citizens and the ability to resolve problems.
- Graduate: SOWK 693, 3 credits may be used as a COSA or Direct Practice elective.
- Undergraduate: SOWK 493, 6 credits
- Students will have one month after returning to complete a written term paper that is due on July 19th, 2008
