Header Bullet  Study Abroad Scholarships

A short pep talk... don’t be underwhelmed or overwhelmed by the prospects until you have taken the time to research the opportunities available. Do spend considerable time looking at all the options, but take breaks when researching this information -- there’ s a lot out there! Remember that most of the pools of money available are related to a particular program -- usually between $500 and $2000. There are not lots of big chunks of money with which you can spend on anything. Good luck!

Federal Financial Aid
WVU allows you to use your federal aid for ANY study abroad program. Your eligibility for federal financial aid is based on your financial resources and your financial NEED. Even if you currently don’t receive federal aid, you may be eligible if your study abroad costs greatly increase your cost of attendance, and therefore, your NEED. Part of the process for preparing for a study abroad experience is to visit the Financial Aid Office and make an appointment to see Paula King. Take a preliminary budget with you listing the costs that are directly related to your proposed study abroad experience — i.e., passport and visa application fees, international health and travel insurance, airfare, tuition, room and board, and books. Sight-seeing, luggage, and cameras do not count!  The National Association of Financial Aid Administrators  NASFAA) site provides a free, comprehensive, independent and objective guide to student financial aid <http://www.wvu.edu/~finaid/abroad.htm>. The US Department of Education offers The Student Guide to Financial Aid at <http://www.ed.gov/prog_info/SFA/StudentGuide/2000-1/>.
