Leilani Browning is from Honolulu, Hawaii. As a teenager her family moved to San Francisco, California so she calls both states home.  Leilani transferred as a junior to WVU from Concord University, in Athens, West Virginia. Her major is Multidisciplinary Studies and she is completing an undergraduate certificate in Gerontology. Leilani is a member of Iota Iota Iota, the Women's Studies Honorary Society. After graduation in May 2006, she plans to attend graduate school.

 

 

Joshua Austin is a junior public relations and political science major from Grafton, W.Va.  He is currently researching the “Misrepresentations of Culture in the Chinese and American Media.”  For his research, Joshua traveled to China with the WVU College of Business and Economics to explore the Chinese business culture.  Professor Joel Beeson, Joshua’s faculty mentor and assistant professor of photography at the WVU Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism, is guiding him in his research.  In his free time, Joshua likes to read books and perform community service projects with the WVU sophomore honorary Helvetia.  He is also a freelancer for the Dominion Post and contributes regularly to its campus life section.

Ehren C. Cruz is a junior in Secondary Education with a Social Studies focus. Ehren's McNair research will address the Adherence of Islamic and Catholic Religions to Scripture and History of Contradiction. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. Ehren is a 2nd generation Puerto Rican from Colonia, NJ, and a first-generation college student who enjoys sports, fantasy reading, writing poetry, and creating music.

Rachel Teresa Hildebrand is a senior WVU student from Morgantown, WV.  She is currently in her second year of the physical therapy education program, a department in the School of Medicine.  Rachel’s McNair research will focus on interact reliability in the assessment of muscle length.  Her plans involve further research in her third year of physical therapy school, achieving a Master’s degree in June 2007 and obtaining a PhD in the field of health and rehabilitation sciences.  Some of her interests include travel, cooking, music, and dance.

Ryan S. Scott is a rising senior from Pittsburgh, PA.  Ryan is currently studying to earn his BA in Communication Studies with a minor in History and Spanish.  He is currently a candidate for the National Deans list, and is also a member of the honors fraternity Lambda Pi Eta which he holds the treasurers seat. Ryan also worked in Residential Education this past year where he was a resident assistant. Ryan plans to get his PhD in communication studies and teach college students.

Ryan Ursal is a rising junior majoring in mechanical/aerospace engineering.  Originally born in Manila, Philippines, his home town is Slanesville, West Virginia.  He is an active member of the West Virginia Mens Rugby team and the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta.  Ryan plans to go to graduate school and pursue a PhD in mechanical engineering to continue research on neural prosthetics.

Renee Stasko is a senior at with a double major in psychology and biology. She is involved in AED (Alpha Epsilon Delta), BBB (Beta Beta Beta), two biology honorary programs. Renee also volunteers at the Children's Hospital.  She is looking into the M.D. /Ph.D programs at several universities and plans to be a well established researcher, pediatrician, and professor by the end of my education path. Renee’s McNair research focuses on foster children and analyzing emotional disorders such as posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety and depression. Her extracurricular activities include dancing, exercising, writing, and coaching youth cheerleading squads.

 

Becky Scoville is currently a junior at WVU pursuing B.S. degrees in Horticulture and Biology.  After completing her B.S. degrees she plans to attend graduate school to attain a PhD in a plant sciences related field.  Her career goals after graduate school include becoming a professor and doing research.  She is currently employed at the WVU Greenhouse and is also participating in two internships: the WVU Organic Research Farm Internship and the Greenhouse Plant Taxonomy Internship.  Becky recently joined the Society for In-Vitro Biology, and participates in the Plant & Soil Sciences Club, Mountaineer Bonsai Society, Morgantown Fiber Guild.  Some of her interests include gardening, amateur mycology, reading, and fiber arts.  Her research with the McNair Program focuses on the micropropagation of tropical hibiscus.

Kristin Williams is a rising junior in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences as a Psychology major.  Her expected date of graduation is May 2007; after which she plans to attend graduate school to obtain her Master’s and Ph.D. in clinical psychology, with hopes of going on to become a forensic psychologist.  Kristin is a native of Huntington, WV.  As well as being in the McNair Scholars Program she is also an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, sits on the executive board of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated, and will serve as a PASSkey mentor for the 2005-2006 school year.  Some of her interests include meeting new people, reading, and listening to music.

Jason Wilkinson is a senior from Kingwood, West Virginia double-majoring in History and Anthropology.  For his McNair research project he is researching the accuracy of Herodotus versus the archaeological record, and after he graduates he hopes to get his Ph.D. at Berkeley in Ancient History and Mediterranean Archaeology. His area of interest is ancient Greece from the Aegean Bronze Age through the Classical period. He is also a member of the Honors Program.

Heather Marie Washington is a rising senior in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences. She is a Criminology and Investigations Major who plans to attend graduate school and attain a Ph.D. in Criminology. For McNair, Heather and her faculty mentor, Dr. James Nolan, will be researching the effects of incarceration on African-American families. She is currently serving as the Vice President of the Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology Club and is responsible for planning the club’s events. After schooling, Heather looks forward to teaching at the university level and working for the federal government.
