What Are Personal and Campus Announcements?
All users of the MIX receive both Campus and Personal Announcements on the My MIX page. Messages cannot be targeted by gender, class rank or residence hall, but can be targeted by major or college.
Personal Announcements
Personal announcements should be just that—of personal interest to every recipient. They should be brief and used selectively to avoid the feeling of receiving "spam" messages.
What Personal Announcements could be:
- reminders of advising appointments
- announcements of residence hall events—by each hall, or even floor
- information valuable to a specific group—e.g., graduating seniors should turn in certain paperwork by this date/visual art majors need to turn in their portfolios by Thursday/IBM will be on campus to interview MBA candidates
- E-news types of letters from the college or major
What Personal Announcements on the MIX are not:
These are not personal ads in the sense of classified ads; they are not messages from one individual to another individual. Those types of messages should be sent via e-mail.
Campus Announcements
These are announcements of interest to all members of the WVU community.
What Campus Announcements could be:
- Events--FallFest, Homecoming, Mountaineer Week, concerts, lectures, etc.
- News highlights
- WVU student/faculty achievements
- Policy changes
Requirements for Campus and Personal Announcements
- Relevant information for the target audience.
- The information is timely. Include an expiration date when the message should be taken off of the MIX. Please submit announcements at least 7 working days in advance of the date you would like it to be sent. "Emergency" announcements will be sent at the discretion of the Web Unit.
- Announcements should be written in third person, e.g., "Brooke Tower residents are invited to an ice cream social at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 1, in the Mountaineer Lounge."
- Include an e-mail address or phone number of a contact person, if appropriate.
- Your message should be as concise as possible. If an announcement is too long, it will be edited to fit the space.
- Please be aware of your grammar and spelling.
- Be aware of quotation marks and apostrophes as they often have to be re-typed from the curly type to the straight to avoid error readings in MIX.
