Will my old MIX mail be moved automatically?
No. Your mail will not be lost. You can move your mail from old MIX to new MIX by watching the tutorial. You have until Sept. 30, 2006 to move your mail.
Can I move my old MIX mail to the new MIX after the upgrade in July?
Yes, directions will be available to move your mail. Please use caution since you will only have twenty MB of space including all of your folders.
How long will I have to move my e-mail?
You will have until September 30, 2006. Help tables will be available during the first week of classes.
When will I start getting new mail in the new MIX?
As soon as the upgrade is complete and the system is online, you should start receiving mail in the new MIX.
How often is mail deleted from the Inbox and other folders?
When mail reaches one year in age it is automatically deleted in all folders and the inbox.
How often is the deleted mail folder emptied?
The deleted folder is emptied automatically every seven days.
I am a student. Should I forward my mail after the upgrade?
No. The only forwarding allowed will be to mail.wvu.edu for faculty and students who have GroupWise accounts, hsc.wvu.edu for Health Science students and faculty, and rcbhsc.wvu.edu for other Health Science students and faculty. The decision is a legal and business decision by the Provost's office, the AAIMS committee, OIT and Web Services. There have been many problems in this area around students forwarding to full hotmail accounts and losing important mail from professors, etc. Also, future authentication and other systems rely on MIX e-mail addresses.
I am a faculty member. If I previously forwarded my mail to GroupWise from old MIX will I need to forward again?
Yes, you will need to set your forwarding options again in new MIX.
I am a faculty member. Do I need to forward MIX mail to my GroupWise?
Faculty have a choice. You can check both accounts or forward to GroupWise. To set forwarding address from MIX to your GroupWise please visit https://stats.mix.wvu.edu/ and login with your MIX username and password.
Group FAQs
Our student organization has a group. Will someone move our group for us?
No, groups will not be migrated. You will need to copy and save your info. Please read the next question for the next step for starting a new group.
After the upgrade, will I need to start a new group?
Yes, first you will need to apply for a group. Please read the guidelines. After your group is approved, then you may add members and recreate stories and photos. We suggest that you save stories and photos from your old group to make the transition easy. You should also copy your list of members and their e-mail addresses.
Will my group be in MIX forever?
No. Every year Web Services will survey groups in the spring semester. If groups do not respond to the e-mail by July 1 of that year, they will be deleted.
I have questions about my current group what should I do?
Please write to mix@mail.wvu.edu and list your questions.
