Auditions for Choral Ensembles, Fall 2007

 

All choral ensembles are open to any WVU student by audition.  Auditions for all NEW, TRANSFER and/or RETURNING students will be held on Monday, August 20, 2007 at 2:00 pm in Bloch Hall.  To schedule an audition at any other time, please contact Dr. Shannon by email at

1.  UNIVERSITY CHOIR – K. Shannon                    0-2 CR         Major Ens.

     MUSC 105 Lec. 1– Mon.-Fri.,  2:00 – 3:20 pm    BLPH          (80917)

Approx. 40 voices, highly select and fast-paced;  repertoire from all stylistic genres, minimum of 4 concerts per semester; touring; recording.  Designed for grad students, upper-level voice majors/principals, and others desiring and committed to a comprehensive choral experience.   

 

2.  WOMEN’S CHOIR – J. Johnson & J. Fox   0-2 CR          Major Ens.

    MUSC 105 Lec. 2 – Tues./Thurs. 2:00 – 3:20 pm   Room 440 (81510)            

Approx. 24 voices; select; designed for Fresh/Soph. voice majors/principals and others desiring a chamber choir experience.  Repertoire from all stylistic genres; minimum of 2 concerts per semester; may combine with other choral ensembles for major works. 

 

3.  CHORAL UNION – K. Shannon                0-1 CR           Major Ens.

     MUSC 102 – Mondays 7:00 – 9:30 pm    Room 200B    (80913)

Approx. 90 singers; open by audition to all students desiring a large-group choral experience.  Repertoire for large choir from all stylistic genres; minimum of 2 concert per semester; may combine with other choral ensembles for major works. NOTE:  Interested new singers may audition on Monday evening, August 20, 2007, at 6:45 pm in Room 200 B.

    Mon. 1:00 – 1:50, Wed. 12:00 – 12:50, Fri 1:00 – 4:00

Mixed ensemble plus band; highly select; repertoire includes contemporary vocal music of all styles, focusing on the development of “close-harmony” ensemble singing.;  recording; travel;  3-5 concerts per semester. 

 

5.  WOMEN’S VOCAL JAZZ ENS. – K. Shannon     1 CR        (81743)

     MUSC 183 G Lec. 2   Tues/Thurs     1:00 – 1:50 pm           BLPH

8-12 Female voices plus band; select; repertoire includes contemporary vocal music for women’s voices; 3-4 concerts per semester. 

 

6. VOCI MONTAGNE MEN’S CHOIR – C. Nichter    0-1 CR        (81495)

    MUSC 147   Tues. 7:00 – 8:30 pm     Room 440

This ensemble explores repertoire of all styles for men’s voices.  Open to any male WVU student, by audition.   1-2 concerts per semester.  May combine with other choirs for major works.

 

7.  MOUNTAINEER CHORALE – S. Schwartz        0-1 CR        (81506)

     MUSC 145 Lec 1              Fri. 12:00 – 12:50      BLPH
