Gordon Nunn

Assistant Professor

Gordon Nunn has recently been appointed as Director of the African Drumming and Dance Ensemble and Assistant Professor with a position as Lecturer at West Virginia University. In addition Professor Nunn’s responsibilities are include Coordinating the World Music Center, teaching African Music Studies, and directing Taiko Ensemble in Division of Music.

Prior to this appointment Professor Nunn served for two years as a Graduate Assistant in World Music in the Division of Music. In addition, Mr. Nunn is doctoral candidate in percussion at West Virginia University focusing in world music. He also serves adjunct percussion instructor at Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, West Virginia.

Professor Nunn earned his Master’s Degree at East Carolina University, and his Bachelor’ s Degree in Music Education at Western Carolina University. In addition to over twenty years of experience as a performer and educator, Mr. Nunn has participated in study trips to West Africa and Cuba where he has developed expertise in various areas of non-Western percussion.
