Director of Choral Activities
Kathleen Shannon, Associate Professor of Music, is Director of Choral Activities. She is conductor of the University Choir, Choral Union, and Vocal Jazz Ensembles, and coordinates other choral ensembles and activities. Dr. Shannon teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in conducting, choral methods and choral literature. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music Education and her DMA in Choral Conducting from the University of Miami, where she studied with Dr. Lee Kjelson, Prof. Larry Lapin, and Prof. Carolyn Stanford. Prior to coming to WVU, she was appointed to the faculty at the University of Mississippi, where she taught choral methods, conducting and served as the conductor of several choral ensembles. She has taught public school at all levels in Georgia and Florida, and is a frequent guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator. She has served on the Florida and Mississippi state boards of the American Choral Directors Association and is an active member of the Music Educators National Conference, the American Choral Directors Association, and the International Association of Jazz Educators.
