Prospective Students
Thank you for visiting the WVU Division of Music Website. We believe that both our history and our awareness of current trends make WVU an excellent choice for serious music study. At WVU, we are constantly evaluating our mission and finding better methods to prepare our students for the future. We accomplish this with a dedicated and internationally recognized faculty of artists and scholars who are committed to the education of our students. Our knowledgeable and dedicated staff makes the Division function smoothly so that our students can focus on their education. Please take the time as you visit our web page to read the biographies of our faculty and staff. You will be impressed by the accomplishments of these fine individuals who are the foundation of our programs.
As proud as we are of our programs, nothing pleases us more than the accomplishments of our alumni and current students. Recently our students and alumni have won prestigious competitions and positions. Our Music Education program continues to have a placement rate of 100%. Performance graduates have received assistantships, fellowships, and scholarships to the most recognized music schools in the country before embarking on careers in major symphony orchestras, military bands and chamber ensembles. Alumni of the Division of Music’s graduate programs (MM, DMA, and Ph. D) are professors and administrators at educational institutions throughout the country and the world.
Our belief in our programs and confidence in our future is based on a rich history. Founded in 1897, the Division has a tradition of excellence in education, performance, and scholarship. As an institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music since 1947 and also one of the few comprehensive music programs in the region, the Division has a history as a leader in music education and performance.
Again, thank you for visiting our website. As you choose which institution is right for your future, I hope you decide to visit our campus. Observe our classes and rehearsals, and be sure to talk to our students and faculty. I am confident that as you explore your educational options you will realize that the Division of Music at West Virginia University is great place to pursue your musical goals.
