2008 Trevor Wye Seminar

Additional Info

Thank you for your interest in the 2008 Trevor Wye Seminar at WVU!   We are really excited to be hosting this incredible artist and pedagogue.  Here are a few items of interest that may help you plan for your trip:

Upon receipt of your application materials, you will be contacted via email as confirmation.  All communication will be done via email unless otherwise indicated as your preference.

Morgantown, WV, is very centrally located and easily drivable from many Eastern, Mid-Atlantic, and Midwestern areas.  If you choose to drive, parking is available at the Creative Arts Center (the “CAC”) and also at the dorms ($2.50 weekly fee).  If you are flying into Pittsburgh International, please contact me so that we can discuss arranging transportation for you.  The airport is approximately 70 miles from Morgantown and the trip takes approximately 1.15 hours, depending on the time of day.

1.  If you are staying on campus at Fieldcrest Hall, click here for directions:
(304) 293-7050

2.  The CAC is located on the Evansdale campus of WVU:  http://www.wvu.edu/CampusMap/

There are many restaurants within walking distance of both the CAC and the dorm, including a large grocery store with an ATM, such as Panera, the Boston Beanery, Burger King, Qdoba Grill, Los Mariachis, Eat-n-Park, McDonald’s, Starbuck’s, Arby’s, Chick-Fil-A, Applebee’s, and several Asian restaurants (sushi, curries, etc.).

Dress is usually casual, although some people prefer to wear something a bit nicer on days where they play in class as a performer.  People usually wear something nice for the last concert.  The indoor temperature can often range from quite warm to quite cool, so you may prefer to bring a sweater and dress in layers.  If you plan to walk, the CAC is at the top of a hill, so wear comfortable walking shoes.

There is wireless internet at the CAC but you will need an access code for this.  Free wireless is available at Panera and several other area restaurants.  Additionally, we have a terrific gym for which you may also purchase a temporary pass while here at WVU.

Practicing may be done in your dorm room during the hours of 8 AM and 10 PM.  You may also practice at the CAC in any open room on the main music floor or in the practice rooms, which are located down one floor.  It is a good idea to bring a folding stand, music, and also a combination lock in case you would like to store music in an open locker.  We are not responsible for the loss of any personal items, however.

What music to bring:  I will request pieces in order of preference of all performers, and tally a list of what is being played and when.  We will let everyone know in advance so that you may bring scores if you choose to study them during the classes.  You may also wish to bring duets or other ensemble pieces.  Studies we will be using in class include Trevor’s Complete Daily Exercises, Practice Books, and Orchestral Studies Vol. 1; Moyse 24 and 25 Petite Etudes, Anderson Etudes Op. 15, and Moyse Variations on Bach Allemande.  There will also be exhibits from Carolyn Nussbaum and the Butterfly Headjoint Company during the class and you will have the opportunity to purchase music you may not have as well as try new instruments.

If you have any questions over the course of time, please do not hesitate to ask.  I look forward to meeting all of you, and to hearing you play in June!
