Degree Requirements
To complete the NAS minor, students must complete 18 credits with a grade of C or better in each class.
These three courses are required and all three satisfy WVU General Education Curriculum requirements toward graduation!
- NAS 200: Intro to Native American Studies
- ENGL 156: Literature of Native Americans
- HIST 264: American Indian History
Students must also complete nine upper-division credits (300-level or above), choosing courses such as the following*:
- NAS 493: Special Topics (including such offerings as Contemporary Native American Issues, Native American Child & Family Studies, Eastern Woodland Indians, Science from a Native Perspective, History of the Moundbuilders, Amizade Global Service Learning (http://www.globalservicelearning.org/), etc.
- NAS 495: Independent Study (3-credit max.)
- COMM 316: Intercultural Communication
- ENGL 356: Topics in Native American Literature (such as The Hollywood Indian)
- ENGL 387: Topics in Women’s Literature (such as Native American Women Writers)
- SOCA 405: Intro to Social Inequality
- GERO 693: Culture, Diversity, & Aging
- HIST 441: 17 th Century Colonial America
- HIST 442: 18 th Century America
- NAS 491: Professional Field Experience
