Much of Dr. Boulware’s teaching and research in early American history deals with Native Americans and the colonial frontier. He structures his undergraduate and graduate courses to situate indigenous peoples at the center of colonial American history. His current research focuses on the Cherokees of the southern Appalachian Mountains. Dr. Boulware is particularly interested in identity formation, border conflict, and nation-building among eighteenth-century Cherokees.
