Multicultural Film and Discussion Series
The WVU Center for Black Culture cordially invites the public to its brown bag lunch film and discussion series every Thursday from 12:00 to 1:30 pm in the Shenandoah Room of the Mountainlair, continuing throughout the fall semester. These Thursday lunches provide opportunities for us to approach issues that are important to various cultures across the world. Each week a different culture is explored by a representative from that country/culture through the showing of a short film with an opportunity for discussion afterwards. The series is coordinated by Peruvian doctoral student Cecilia Rollins, a Multicultural Counselor and member of the Native American Studies Committee.

In September, 2006, the film, "Return of the Navajo Boy" was presented by Bonnie M. Brown, Coordinator, WVU Native American Studies. This is a heart-rending story about the native people telling their story of loss and triumph against the many threats to the preservation of culture, health, and family. For detailed information on the film, go to http://www.navajoboy.com.
NAS had previously hosted a discussion of the many issues illustrated in the film, “Lost Bird of Wounded Knee,” a documentary by South Dakota Public Television, which looks at the tragic life of one of the few survivors of the Wounded Knee Massacre.
