| Facts about Philosophy at WVU
Students in our program can study in the following areas in philosophy : ethics, philosophy of religion, metaphysics, the theory of knowledge, the history of philosophy, philosophy of science, logic, philosophy of mind, continental philosophy, biomedical ethics, social and political philosophy, and philosophy of law.
The philosophy major has a special pre-law track for students who are bound for law school. Students in the pre-law track study current moral problems, philosophy of law, and social and political philosophy.
All philosophy majors in all courses receive extensive training in thinking critically and writing clearly. Our graduates count these as among the most important things they acquire in the program. Employers in all areas value these skills.
Philosophy majors get plenty of individual attention from their advisors and in their classes.
All philosophy majors either complete an intensive junior/senior seminar or write a senior thesis.
Philosophy majors can get credit for professional field experience (PHIL 491).
