Online Master's Degree in Athletic Coaching Education (ACE)

Admission Requirements

  • an overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.75**
  • sport resume – please be sure to include coaching experience, sport participation, sport related awards, sport administration, sport officiating and other sport related employment and relevant experiences
  • two letters of recommendation. Your letters of recommendation speak to applicants professionalism, potential strengths as a student of coaching science and potential as a coach.
  • GRE score
  • TOFEL score (for foreign language students only)
  • NOTE: Preference will be given to individuals with physical education, exercise science, kinesiology, athletic training, athletic coaching education, sport and exercise psychology, or related bachelor’s degrees and those with sport related experiences, particularly coaching

There will be a maximum of 30 students admitted per year to the online master’s degree program. Admission is limited to summer start only.

Application Information

APPLICATION DEADLINE DATE : March 1.

All application materials must be received by the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences by March 1.

Your complete application should be sent to the WVU Admissions and Records Office along with the application fee and official undergraduate transcripts where it must be received and processed before it is forwarded to the ACE faculty. This process can take awhile, so you should mail your materials to the WVU Admissions and Records Office at least three (3) weeks (international students, three months) before the deadline date of March 1 to allow plenty of time for the materials to reach the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences in time for the March 1 cutoff date. Prospective students may also apply online at the WVU Admissions & Records web site.

Please note that it is the applicant’s responsibility to make sure all materials (including letters of recommendation) are submitted to the WVU Admissions and records office early so that they received by the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences March 1 deadline if they wish to be considered.

Any incomplete applications (those without all required materials and documentation) or applications received by the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences after March 1 will not be considered in the application pool.

Prospective students for the ACE online master's degree should submit the following items to the WVU Admissions and Records Office

    • graduate school application & fee
    • official undergraduate transcripts
    • aport resume
    • two letters of recommendation
    • GRE score
    • TOFEL score (if necessary)

** Provisional admission for the online ACE master's degree program

Students who do not meet the 2.75 grade point average requirement may be admitted as a provisional graduate student only if their GPA is between 2.50 and 2.75. If a student is admitted as a provisional student they are required to attain a 3.0 GPA in their first 12 hours of advisor approved course work in order to remain in the program and to be reclassified as a regular graduate student. Provisional admissions shall be a small minority of those admitted to the program.

Applicants with below a 2.5 GPA will not be considered for admissions, based on WVU Graduate School requirements.

In order to receive an ACE master's degree, all students must have an overall GPA of 3.0 in all course work leading towards the degree and they must satisfy all college and university requirements.

Graduation Requirements

In order to receive an ACE degree, all students must have

  • earned 36 advisor approved credits,
  • satisfy all college and university requirements and
  • have earned an overall GPA of a 3.0 in all course work leading towards the degree.
