Online Master's Degree in Sport Management
The sport management program at West Virginia University has prepared qualified graduate and undergraduate students since 1981. The online online master’s degree in sport management has been offered at WVU since 2005.
This degree offers flexibility to complete course competencies at times which are convenient for students. The online master’s degree is expected to be completed in two years. Students will complete 50% of the courses online. The remaining course load will be completed onsite at the WVU campus in Morgantown during a two-week period over three consecutive summers.
Those who seek to complete the degree must be practicing professionals currently involved in their respective sport-related careers or professionals desiring a career in the sport industry. In order to enhance their careers, they must expand their skill sets to include administration and management of large-scale events and/or governance and staffing of multi-mission agencies. In addition, these professionals must develop expertise in fundraising, marketing, and resource development. These skills will uniquely prepare the professional with the latest theory-based approach to the management and administration of sport, leisure, and recreation.
Admission
- The specific admission requirements for the online master’s degree in sport management are listed below:
- a working professional in the sport industry or a professional desiring a career in the sport industry
- a bachelor’s degree
- current vitae
- an overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75
- three letters of recommendation
- a two-page career statement
- computer literacy and skills (i.e., Word, Excel, Powerpoint, use of web chats, etc.)
- TOEFL for non-native English speakers (minimum score of 550 or 2/3computer score)
- In addition, applicants must complete the WVU online application form.
- Successful candidates will be contacted by telephone. The final selection of students will be based on the applicants’ overall qualifications. All submitted materials must be received by the year in which they are applying for summer admission.
- Accepted candidates will be notified by the end of the first week in June. a kickoff cookout will be scheduled and a all students and families invited.
- Due to the nature of the program, it is highly recommended that accepted candidates possess a personal computer with the latest available technology.

Sport Management Online Master's Degree Faculty
