Learn More

We're glad you've decided to learn more about fraternities at WVU and hopefully, Pi Kappa Phi.

You've probably come to this site because you're curious about Pi Kappa Phi; what we are, what we do, and who can join.

Basically, we're just a bunch of guys who like to have a good time and look out for one another. In addition, we do alot of things that will improve you as a person while you're in college and improve your chances for a good job after your graduate. Since there are too many opportunities to list on this page, I've included some pictures with a description of what the activity is beside the picture to give you a better idea of what we do.

The Pi Kappa Phi Chapter at West Virginia University has a membership base of approximately 40 guys, freshmen to senior. We are made up of guys from West Virginia and at least six surrounding states, including Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Maryland and New Jersey. Nationally, Pi Kappa Phi has 125 Initiated Chapters and 11 Associate Chapters in 36 States.

Anyone can join. The only general requirements are a good attitude and a desire to improve yourself!

As I mentioned, the chapter membership is generally around 40 guys, making it a tight group where everybody knows each other.

This is a photo after a chapter meeting at the fraternity house.

Each fall we go out to Cheat Lake for the Annual Pi Kapp Canoe Trip. The night before the trip, we camp out at a secluded sandbar on Cheat Lake and play football, sand volleyball and cook out.

This photo is from fall 2004.

This is another picture from the Annual Canoe Trip. This shot is of the trip after all of the girls arrive on Saturday.

During the day, we take boats and jet skiis out to ski and wake board, and we play horseshoes and volleyball.

Three lovely young ladies having a great time at the Canoe Trip.

Considering there are no roads to the area where the trip is held, everyone attending must ride a boat or jet ski to and from the area.

Approximately 100 people attend the event.

And of course, we tailgate.

Pi Kapps tailgate every home game and we often road trip to away games.

Look for the '06 Mounties to have a great season to fuel the tailgate areas.

Pi Kapps also hold motivational lectures and educational events.

This event, hosted by our alumni, is a meeting of alumni and undergraduates talking about the fraternity experience and what it means to us.

This event was held during the 25th Anniversary of our rechartering here at WVU. Alumni initiated from as far back as 1978 attended. This shows that the fraternity experience connects members to the organization and WVU for many years after their graduation.

Each year, a major golf event is hosted by the fraternity. Undergraduates, alumni and friends play in this event and have a great time.

Athletic events are a major component of Pi Kappa Phi, and Pi Kappa Phi is a great organization for those who are fierce competitors, and for those who enjoy more relaxed athletic events like bowling and golf.

The fraternity is active in numerous intramural university sports each year; including basketball, flag football, bowling, volleyball, and softball.

The Journey of Hope is a cross-country bicycle trek beginning in San Francisco, CA and ending in Washington, D.C. The event raises funds and awareness for people with disabilities. Simply put, the Journey of Hope is a ride with a purpose.

Push America, the exclusive service learning project of the Fraternity, instills lifelong service in our members and serving people with disabilities, the Journey of Hope created the largest fraternal fund-raising and awareness event of its kind.

Today the Journey of Hope covers 32 different states, cycling over 12,000 miles combined, is solely comprised of members of Pi Kappa Phi.

From the inaugural team of 21 team members in 1987 that raised $20,000, the team has since been expanded into three different routes of 35 Pi Kappa Phis and annually raises more than $500,000.

To date, over 900 undergraduates have participated in the Journey of Hope.
