Tuesday March 9
12:30-2:00 p.m.:   TE 496 Graduate Seminar at Tatterson House.  Dr. Gregory Good, Associate Professor in the WVU History Dept. specializing in the history of science and environmental history, will present "Earth Science, Technology, and the Environ-mental Crisis of the 1970s: Human Realization of Global Environmental Change."  According to Dr. Good, the environmental crisis of the 1970s was, despite its obvious bio-physical realities, primarily a socio-political process, in which people who had previously averted their gaze from the realities, became vocal advocates of action.   Technology has two roles in this story: it has made possible the massive effects that can produce regional and global environmental effects and, second, it has made it possible for us to detect these large-scale effects.  This discussion will focus on how one critical neglected group of actors suddenly joined the advocates.   How did these arbiters join a movement that started outside of science?  How did they react to it?  Technology, science, social and political action all have a role.  The realization in the 1970s that human society can have systemic environmental effects provides a deep background to the current framing of research, debate, and action.

2:00-3:00 p.m.:  PATS Meeting in the Conference Room at Tatterson House.  The main agenda item will consist of discussion of Spring events.  Look at the complete agenda.

From Allen Hall (Evansdale Campus) -
Go to I-68 via the mileground.   Cross over I-68 interstate, Pierpont Road onto 837.   This leads past Tiberios restaurant heading toward the old Cheat Lake metal bridge.   Continue down this road to the 3rd right (approximate 1.5 miles) - this is Tyrone Road.   Be sure to note that Tyrone Avery is the 1st right and "should not" be taken!   After turning onto Tyron Road take, again, the 3rd right onto Pine Tree Lane (its a wooden sign just after passing a large green water tank on that's on the left side of the road).   Once on Pine Tree go down to the bottom of a short hill where you must turn right or left.   Go right again and our house is the second on the right.   A brick ranch-style with a steep driveway.

If coming from any other way, people should get on I-68 and turn off at exit 7, Pierpont Exit.   Then following the directions as given above.
